  • Truth (Challenge/Requested Post)

Recently, @SasGal created a challenge labeled Truth or Dare, in which you pick one, either truth, or dare; and your fellow Xanga's may comment with their questions or requests, depending upon which you choose.

I chose Truth, and I am modifying the limitations and rules a little so that it stays limited to this one post.

You may ask ONE open ended question, or you may ask up to FIVE questions that are able to be answered with a simple yes, or no.

I will answer questions as they come in the comments section so everything is consolidated in one place.  *Smiles*

  • Do you have a happy place that you go to?  If so, where is it?

  • @SasGal - I used to, it was a visual meditation that was supposed to help you get in contact with your subconscious.  For me it took on the guise of a lush wooded path, filled on both sides with foliage.  But that was just the first part, to immerse yourself in the Visualization; after that I would follow the path and it led me to a quaint little cottage in the woods.

And each and every time I visited, their would be a kind and wise elderly woman, waiting for me in her favorite rocking chair.  She would greet me like a fond old friend, and we would go inside and have tea and cookies, chatting about life, about many things really.

*Smiles*  She was supposed to be the outlet for my subconscious to talk to me.  I never tried to regulate the experience, only my own actions inside this place.  It was peaceful.  I fell out of practice when I had a family, it is difficult to get the peace and quite needed for this exercise.

  • If you could change any one thing about who you are right now, what would it be?

  • Do you believe that things happen for a reason or that the world is just a bunch of random occurances?

  • @opticalnoise - *Smiles*  My very first thought that popped into my head: "Well that's simple, I would grant myself super powers, like the omniscience of all things past and present, and the ability to integrate that data in a meaningful... oh wait she is probably talking about changing something from my past isn't she *Shakes head amused*"

I would change nothing in my past, *Smiles*  But if I was granted the freedom to change who I am right this instant in the present?  *Sits and ponders for an obscenely long time*  That is such a good question, I thank you for asking it, I still don't have an answer yet.  *Ponders some more*

Answer:  I love questions that force you to sit down (Pace in my case) and think.  My answer is this:  I would like to find simpler things more enjoyable, such that, when I am playing with my two youngest children - I would get as much enjoyment and engrossment playing with their simple toys, as I would reading a good book, or playing a computer game.  As it stands my upper tolerable level is an hour and a half, before boredom starts to settle in, and the world of duties, the world of tasks starts to pull my mind in that direction.  Engrossment, yes, I think that is an apt word.  I would like to become more engrossed in the world of my children so my mind doesn't wander to things like "You should go do the laundry, or you should go do the dishes."  Those things can be done in time.

  • @Claradriel - If I may borrow from my own unfounded theory of wouldn't it be nice if:  *Smiles*  I think, or rather I would like to think, that the world of the physical, this place, Earth; is a place where our souls can come, to escape a perfect existence.  That this place, is a place of imperfection for a reason, a place where we can go in order to promote our own spiritual growth, because here?  Here we are limited.  With that basic framework out of the way let me move on to your question:  I believe that as souls, we choose the major theme's in our lives, the major events we will experience, obstacles we will have to face; as such there is a certain amount of destiny involved in the creation of our life, but also very hefty amounts of freedom.  So I believe that there is a little of both actually, a bit of chance, and a bit of nudging here and there.  From my perspective however, everything, great and small, takes on a secondary function of allowing chances for personal and spiritual growth, be it a planned theme (Great and significant event) or the minor aspects of life as we move through this mortal coil.

  • @silveranstavern - That made me smile, well put :)

  • Given that time flows endlessly and it is only we humans that dare so we think we're the only ones to say that it is a point rather than an unending wave, Given that, what point other than the now would you like to live within what is that point and perhaps where...but more importantly WHY?

  • I would love to participate in this, it sounds fun. However, I doubt anyone would even comment (except maybe you). Also I'm terrible at asking questions of others in this type of a situation. I prefer to get to know someone through conversation.

  • @None_May_Have_Her - *Smiles*  I prefer conversation as well, it is more... Intimate, in nature.  Still, if you think it is fun, do it, but do it without expectation so you can savor the fun, and not be worried about the "ifs".  You will be much happier, if you didn't worry about if someone would comment.  *Grins*  But in the end, I will say merely do what you like, what seems fun to you, and if you do not think you can free yourself from the worry, and wonder.  It doesn't prevent you from participating.  My question will most likely be the same I ask to most:  Do you meditate?  *Smiles*

  • @starmanjones - I have always romanticized the Japanese, when the way of the samurai/warrior was at its height.  Too much Anime *Smiles*  I am sure that it would be nothing like they portray it now, but that is why I would like to take the time to experience it for myself.

  • @silveranstavern - I like the Akira Kurosawa portrayal owithin "Seven samurai" an old black and white subtitled affair.  I find that it's well matched to the characters of the story and welllllll! researched even within simple scenes.... for instance the scene where the boy is ready to waylay the perspective interviewees of the seven and must swing a pole/club at them aand all the true samurai defeat such a simple ploy and one who wants to be the seventh samurai gets whackeded... or another scene where in an early choice  for the seven and a releuctant participant has a duel with a peasant first fighting without swords drawn and when it is explained why a seeming tie is in reality a stunning failure on the part of the peasant- the peasant beligerantly poses to fight for 'real" and dies in the ensuing same said way.  only three scenes have subtitles that are frankly hard to read due to contrast - but overall the movie is stunning for the story and thoughtful execution..sic of the elements within it.  it is commonly available from big city libraries and thus interlibrary loanable if your particular library doesn't posess a copy... "seven samurai" akira Kurosawa-  Janis films I believe it's circa 57.

  • @opticalnoise - *Amused Smile* I have seen your questions on other peoples truth or dares, and your truths, or your dares, have thus far, always been designed to uplift, to leave the recipient thinking good, uplifting, or positive thoughts perhaps.  *Grins*  And then I look at my own question, which by nature is designed to focus on the negative, find that part of yourself which you dislike, which you would cut away.  Why the special treatment Luv?  *Grins*  Not that I minded responding to you.  It was one of the more thoughtful questions I had to consider.

  • @silveranstavern - Perhaps because with the others, I know the things about them they would wish to change; you're a tougher nut to crack. Also (and this is more probably true) I have a set of stock questions I offer when people say "ask me anything" or I end up pulled into a game of "truth or dare," and I am liberally sprinkling them about amongst those who are playing this game. However, the main cause is that I don't think you'd have to think hard, to find something about yourself you liked. And the idea that you had to think quite a bit about how to answer my question proves that it had it's intended effect

By the by, that's an awesome answer.

  • Well you facinate me for so many reasons but perhaps the most obvious is Why do you write your smiles? rather than use smilies or colons and brackets?

  • I have another one for you.  Well, technically it's more than one, I guess :)   What would you consider to be your greatest strength, your greatest weakness, and why do you see them as such?

  • @BFB1131 - *Plucking a thorn'd rose from the thin air, a soft smile plays his lips and he stares at you with an Amused expression; the rose, it is of a vibrant and shining red, so out of place in the soft hues that normally lend the Tavern its atmosphere*  To answer that question, my friend.  You must remember, or be told if it is a fact you have not learned, that I (Referring to Silveran the Moon Elf) came from the mind of my creator; as he breathed life into me, and my persona in the many Role Playing chat rooms.  *Letting the rose go, it drifted slowly away, hanging in the air with no visible support.  Fading, slowly fading, until the scenery changed; and, in a world of muted grays and rich blacks, a thorny maze was born, the vibrant red setting stark contrast to the rest of the scenery.*  It is with these Asterisks ** that he denoted the actions I took, and painted words to my actions.  I would suppose that it is habit for him now to paint actions into words using the Asterisks *Smiles*  Perhaps that lends it a bit more clarity?  *Motioning with his hand he draws your attention toward a door that wasn't there moments ago, a door you remember, leading back to the Tavern, Silveran's Tavern.*

  • @silveranstavern - Ah that clears it up a bit :) thanks.
Role Playing with you must be Awesome!

  • @Claradriel - *Grins* Ah, ah, ah *Shakes his finger in a playful admonitory fashion*  One question, remember?  *Smiles*

But, because I do not think I will be bombarded by questions, and because I like you, I will answer one other.  *Winks*

My greatest strength, and my greatest weakness are one and the same.  It is my sense of balance, my be like the water philosophy.  Yes, well while it is an enjoyable experience to simply be in the present, and be in a state of Balance within myself as I drift through life; I find that I also have a tendency to be complacent and stagnate if left to my own devices.  *Smiles*  That is why I have always surrounded myself with other people, to be my cup, or the wind in my sails, so to speak; people like QuantumStorm usually, people who have a great personality and are fun to be around, who bring a sense of adventure.  Otherwise, I think I would be quite content, being one of those Guru's that goes into retreat, and leads a very simple existence; but, if that is my future path, I do not think it my present, so I look for fire to heat me, motivate me, to experience and enjoy life.  I surround myself with people that are much unlike myself.  *Winks*  Not in terms of likes and dislikes, but in terms of personality.

To clarify, I am a very passive, live in the moment, enjoy the now, go with the flow, type of person.  I find that to be of great importance to me, I find it to be a great asset.  On the other hand, as most things do, it also has a drawback, *Winks* and in order to experience the riches life has to offer, I usually have to be channeled or dragged in that direction.

I only have one stipulation for the most part on where others decided to take me.  ME and the SUN are ARCHENEMIES and they need to respect that.  I don't find going out into the direct sunlight enjoyable at all, 30 minutes will start to develop a sunburn, even with sunscreen, an hour is guaranteed, and two hours will blister even with sunscreen.  My wife forgets this from time to time and drags me to the beach to go swimming, I love swimming, but every time we have gone, I am laid up for 2 to 3 weeks as my skin is blistered up and healing.  I finally had to tell her, No, take the kids but don't take me.  But, I have a new long sleeve swimming shirt, so perhaps I can enjoy these activities now.  *Smiles*

  • @BFB1131 - It was, I don't Role Play in chat rooms much anymore,  *Smiles* I upgraded to role-playing in pen and paper games, and it truly depends on the DM that I get,  *Grins*  I have this bad habit of being creative, some really don't like out of the box thinking that trivializes an encounter.  *Chuckles*

But I still use ** to describe actions when I am chatting on messenger form time to time.

  • What makes you laugh...really laugh...like in can't catch your breath, might pee your pants laugh?

  • @AdamsWomanFell - I never know what I will find funny or not, I don't laugh often, but sometimes...  *Smiles*  This is a post here on Xanga that had my sides splitting, most I have laughed in quite some time.  I prefer wit to most forms of comedy, and wit doesn't lend itself to the type of laughter you describe, but tends to lend itself more to genuine amusement instead.

  • A few years ago I'd have to pay someone for this inroamftion.
